Robots have the ability to imitate humans in real time
For complex human movements, the system robot Icub 3 can mimic real-time and synchronize with human actions from a distance. A new robotic project by the Italian Institute of Technology has taken “remote control” to a whole new level.
In addition to walking, performing flexible limb movements in sync with the operator’s movements, the Icub 3 robot is equipped with sensor gloves to provide tactile feedback to the operator. When the robot lifts something, the remote operator has a sense of weight.
The operator can see and hear what the robot sees and hears. According to the researchers, future applications for this robot could include remote travel, disaster response, or even replacement parts of the human body.
