Each citizen is entitled to nearly 1,000 USD if they do not drive on the street

The city of Brussels (Belgium) is applying a solution to reduce emissions by giving each resident an amount of nearly 1,000 USD to not put their car on the road.

Brussels city government (Kingdom of Belgium) is willing to pay each person 900 euros (equivalent to 988 USD) provided they do not register their car on the road. This policy is part of a program called Bruxell’Air that provides incentives for people to stop or limit Driver in Brussels.

Brussels is a relatively small city compared to the capitals of other neighboring countries. However, this city has very poor air quality, on par with Paris, Amsterdam, or even London.

This city government assesses, the main cause of air pollution comes from traffic that cars car individuals make up the majority. Therefore, the solution to limit those who are driving cars on the road is considered essential.

Instead of a series of measures that were applied but did not have much effect, Brussels has decided to directly support people in cash if they do not register their cars to travel in the city. Thus, legally, these cars are not allowed to move on the street, but still have normal trading value.

To receive the above 900 euro amount, people must demonstrate a minimum income of 37,600 euros/year (equivalent to 41,301 USD/year). Those with incomes higher than 75,100 euros/year (US$82,495) only receive support up to 500 euros ($549) for this. Particularly, disabled people are supported at the highest level without proof of income.

Brussels hopes that this will help reduce the large number of cars traveling in densely populated areas and direct people to use public transport, which is quite developed in this city.
