3-year-old boy in Thanh Hoa accidentally drank rat poison while being treated for Covid-19

A pediatric patient named DSP (3 years old), residing in Quang Nhan commune, Quang Xuong district, mistakenly drank rat poison and was taken to Thanh Hoa Children’s Hospital in a critical condition, with cyanosis, convulsions and very fast heartbeat.

The patient was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure, poisoned with rat poison, contracted Covid-19, with a very severe prognosis. Immediately after that, the patient was supported with mechanical ventilation, stopped convulsions, intubated and monitored his condition.

After 5 days of intensive care, the child’s health is stable, no fever, no convulsions, eating well and can be discharged from the hospital in the next week.

According to the patient’s family, on March 12, while no adult was watching, P. went to the kitchen to play and take rat poison to drink. The incident was discovered by a neighbor when he went to the house to play.

Doctors said that the above patient was fortunate to be transferred to a medical facility for early treatment, so he recovered quickly and left no sequelae.
