30 people injured in earthquake in Algeria

President Abdelmadjid Teboune ordered the Interior Minister, Health Minister and National Solidarity Minister – the family and the status of women to come to the scene “to be ready for disaster”.

The APS news agency said that of the 30 injured, 27 have now been treated and discharged home. The remaining three cases of fractures in different locations are being cared for by doctors.

Interior Minister Kamel Beldjoud emphasized that the delegation would closely examine the damage caused by the battle earthquake caused by this disaster, and said that the State is ready to effectively respond to the disaster and asked local officials to make efforts to assist the affected victims.

According to authorities’ reports, although the earthquake was quite strong, no buildings were collapsed, and only minor damage was recorded. However, about 20 households living in the “old” districts of Béjaïa were asked to move quickly. Authorities are currently assessing the damage caused by the earthquake.

In March 2021, an earthquake also shook and damaged more than 2,000 houses as well as a series of administrative facilities and schools in Béjaïa.
