Quang BinhGo to the top of U Bo more than 900 m, the highest in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, you will see ancient forest, langur douc, gibbon siki…

U Bo Peak is located at Km52 Ho Chi Minh Road, in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. Its peak is more than 900 m, it is the highest mountain in the national park, located next to Truong Son Tay. From the center of the Phong Nha tourist area – Ke Bang, you will pass about 45 km along the Ho Chi Minh road to U Bo. The road to the top of this mountain is located in a pristine and majestic primeval forest. The streets are quiet, with few people passing by, so visitors need to prepare well before leaving.

Before approaching the summit, visitors stop to rest at U Bo Ranger Station. The station is located in a remote area, the nearest residential area is up to 40 km away. The area has no electricity grid, but there is still a telephone signal. The station manages nearly 5,000 hectares of primeval forest.

From U Bo Ranger Station, under the guidance of a ranger, it takes visitors about 40 minutes to reach the top of the mountain. The path is not steep, stretching under a canopy of primeval forest with old trees as big as two people. If lucky, visitors can see langur douc, gibbon siki… on the road. But this area is wet, thick under the trees so that many are squeezed. Visitors must prepare anti-squeezing drugs, long pants and socks.

The right time to enjoy the scenery at U Bo is from March to August. The climate here is cool all year round, in the morning and evening it is often covered with clouds, it feels like you are in Sapa or Da Lat.

Above U Bo is the ranger’s fire watchtower. On the watchtower, looking around, visitors can admire the majestic primeval forest. Hidden in the forest canopy is the Ho Chi Minh road that winds its way along the mountainside. According to forest protection officer Ho Van Niem, sometimes at the fire watchtower, he encounters herds of langurs and monkeys crossing branches. On a clear day, from the watchtower, you can look out over the city of Dong Hoi.

Before the Covid-19 outbreak, many groups of foreign tourists often passed this road and visited the ranger station to see the peak of Mount U Bo. Currently, the peak of U Bo is still natural and has not been widely used for tourism. In the future, this area can be planned as an ecotourism destination, providing an extra experience for visitors when they come to Quang Binh.
