Musician Hong Dang – the author of the song “Milk flower” passed away

Musician Hong Dang, whose full name is Phan Dang Hong – one of the great trees of the Vietnamese music village, passed away at 5:57 am this morning (March 21) at Friendship Hospital.

Musician Hong Dang was born in 1936 in Yen Thanh, Nghe An. He is the grandson of revolutionary Phan Dang Luu. Since 1950, when he was a student in the resistance war in Inter-zone IV, he had his first compositions such as: Sunshine to the Northwest, Gratitude to Uncle Ho, Student life…

He took the first composition class at the Vietnamese music school after peace was restored. The musician was former Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Musicians Association, courses IV and V, Editor-in-Chief of Music magazine (since 1989), and The World of Music (since 1996). He is also a member of the Vietnam Journalists Association, the first musician admitted to the Vietnam Cinema Association, a member of the Hanoi Arts and Culture Association, a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam – Japan Cultural Exchange Association, a member National Committee for the International Decade of Cultural Development.

During his lifetime, musician Hong Dang composed more than 700 works including many genres such as songs, choirs, scenes, instrumental music, film soundtracks, stage music… His famous soundtrack songs include: can be mentioned as Milk flowers, Floating, The sea sings this afternoon, Nostalgia for the ocean night… In which, the song “Milk flower” written by him for the film “Hanoi in the season of birds nesting” by director Duc Hoan in 1978 became the song “accompanying the years” and living forever in the hearts of music lovers.

Composer Hong Dang is credited with initiating Half a Century of Vietnamese Music and was also honored in the 2000 Music Path. On October 28, 2021, he was awarded the Grand Prize “Bui Xuan”. Phai – For the love of Hanoi” for his outstanding contributions to the Capital’s music industry.
