Finding the victims’ bodies is also not easy

China’s state media said no one survived in the country’s worst air disaster in more than a decade when a Boeing 737 carrying 132 people plummeted off a cliff.

China Youth Daily, one of the mainstream newspapers in China, reported that a miracle did not happen in the tragic accident of China Eastern Airlines. The search effort was drawing to a close for a second day, but the mountainous terrain and bad weather made rescue operations more difficult.

Although the plane crashed into the mountain, up to now, the black box of the ill-fated Boeing 737 has not been found. These are devices to record the cockpit and store flight data, considered the most important clue to the cause of the crash.

Search and rescue teams had to make their way through thickets of debris and plane parts. Wallets, identification documents, and cell phones of those on board were found scattered on the ground.

The veteran aviation investigator talked about the tragic plane crash in China: Finding the victims' bodies is also not easy - Photo 1.

Rescuers search for what’s left of the crash.

China’s state broadcaster CCTV quoted the rescue team as saying: “Debris of the plane has been found, but rescuers have not found any of those on board.” That suggests it is more likely that the plane was broken up after the accident.

David Soucie, a former safety inspector at the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), said: “The crash happened when the plane went down at such a high speed that it was very unlikely to find any survivors. , the remains of passengers and crew are also difficult to identify.”

Hundreds of rescue workers have been deployed to the crash site. They worked through the night and kept looking. Police and paramedics and fire fighters are preparing supplies and drones to view the entire area.

However, the area where the plane crashed was surrounded by mountains on three sides. There is only one narrow entrance to the area. There is no electricity here. Heavy rescue equipment was also unable to reach the scene.

Currently, China Eastern Airlines has contacted the families of the victims. Authorities in Wuzhou, where the plane crashed, also sent a bus to pick up the relatives of the victims.

David Soucie says the most difficult job of an accident investigator is talking to the next of kin. “What families want right now is to get whatever is left of their loved one in the crash. In this case, there won’t be much to take away.”

This is the worst plane crash in China in decades. The incident was so serious that Chinese President Xi Jinping gave instructions just a few hours after the incident. Xi also asked Chinese authorities to investigate the cause of the accident, which shows that China is serious about finding the cause of the catastrophic incident.
