Rosgvardiya is an armed force separate from the Russian Army formed from the forces of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), special police forces (SOBR, OMON)… in 2016.
Rosgvardiya’s mission is to protect the border, is responsible for gun control, combats terrorism and organized crime, protects public order and guards important facilities.
As of 2018, Rosgvardiya has about 340,000 personnel in 84 units across Russia. Special operations battalions of the Russian Republic of Chechnya are also included in this force structure.
