North Korea releases video of ‘monster’ missile test
North Korea’s state media has released a video showing the country successfully launching an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Hwasong-17.
On March 25, the North Korean news agency confirmed, during the test-fire on March 24, the country’s Hwasong-17 missile was launched from Pyongyang International Airport. This missile reached a maximum altitude of nearly 6,300 km and flew a distance of 1,090 km in 4,025 seconds, hitting a simulated target at sea.
Video released by North Korean media shows leader Kim Jong-un and several other senior North Korean officials overseeing the launch. At the end of the video is a scene of North Korean soldiers cheering when the test was successful.
The new weapon “will reliably perform its mission and duty as a powerful nuclear war deterrent,” leader Kim Jong-un said.
Hours after North Korea’s test launch, South Korea’s military fired a salvo of ballistic and cruise missiles toward the Sea of Japan in what appeared to be a response to Pyongyang’s launch.
