The female student dropped out of university to major in English to learn a trade

Tran Thi Thien Truc (born in 2000) is one of those young people, when she applied for a university degree in English language, but gave up to attend a vocational school for the simple reason that it was suitable for herself.

Truc said, when he was in high school, he had only one plan, which was to go to university and set a goal to major in Logistic. In order to increase her chances of getting into university, Truc enrolled in a few more majors from the Vietnam Maritime University. However, the test results were not as expected, and Truc was admitted to the English language major with a lower standard.

Truc continued to study this subject a year later, however, during her studies, she felt that even though it was a university, the major was not very suitable for her.

Being a rather timid person, Truc wants to have a change of himself, to become more dynamic and flexible. Thinking for many days, Truc decided to choose to study a profession and study tourism at Hai Phong Tourism College because of his hobby of traveling and seeing the potential for future career development.

“In that period, I also thought and pondered a lot. Not only me, my family too. Because before, society still has the notion that getting into a university is better than a vocational school anyway. However, only I know that I am suitable, what I want and which environment offers real job opportunities for me.

“English is also a trending industry, but at university you will learn a lot of academic knowledge. As a timid person, approaching that huge amount of knowledge without knowing how to apply it in practice, I feel sorry for the waste.

I want to find myself a clearer career opportunity after graduation. I think that with the growing society, the tourism industry will be a good stepping stone for me to change myself and have many job opportunities in the future.”

Seeing that Truc expressed his legitimate desires and aspirations, his parents also supported him.

“After 3 years of studying, until now I feel satisfied and think it was a correct decision and have no regrets.”

Truc said that the decision to study a vocational school with her was not a downfall in the process of personal development, even brought positive things. “Any environment is fine, as long as I feel more developed and dynamic.”

In the past 2 years, when the Covid-19 epidemic became stressful, the tourism industry also slowed down for a while. However, up to now, when Truc is about to graduate from school, the epidemic has gradually subsided, the tourism industry has reopened, and I feel that job opportunities are more open in front of me.

Truc said, during her studies, she was also connected by the school to do internships at a number of travel and hotel companies. Thereby accumulating a lot of experience, practical skills for themselves in addition to the knowledge learned at school.

The path to vocational school is also different. Unlike Thien Truc, Dao Thu Huyen (born in 1999, currently a student of Culinary Engineering at Hai Phong Tourism College) chose to learn a trade right after graduating from high school because of her hobby and vision. career prospects are quite clear in the future.

“I see that our country’s tourism industry is currently very developed, especially the food processing industry, which needs a lot of human resources to serve the increasing tourism and food needs of the people.” .

Huyen said that learning any profession requires learning to accept and face its own difficulties and struggles.

With the food processing industry, Huyen said, it is necessary to have health and perseverance and stamina. I also have to get used to the grease all over my hands, sometimes even splashing all over my face. Another pressure is the heat from the stove and the kitchen cavity.

Or to have professional knife handling and cutting skills, it also takes a few weeks, some people even take up to a month to practice proficiently, operate quickly, and limit unnecessary labor accidents.

“However, if cooking is a hobby then those pressures shouldn’t be an issue. Sometimes it’s a bit hard, but in return, I can satisfy my passion”, Huyen laughed.

The most memorable thing Huyen remembers is a time when she studied directly at an enterprise that the school connected with. That time, when she prepared food for guests very carefully, thoughtfully, but in the process of serving customers, Huyen dropped the food.

“At that time, I felt very awkward and felt really sorry for the customer. But also from that lesson, I learned to be more careful in my work before the dishes reach the customers, not to repeat the same incidents.

However, Huyen said, also through the times of direct practice and experience at the enterprise, Huyen as well as her friends have been exposed to, understood and grasped customer psychology more, and developed more skills. ability later.
