Asimo – Japan’s pioneering robot technology icon
After going public for the first time in 2000, Asimo has become iconic robotic technology pioneer of Japan, after 20 years of continuous operation, on March 31, Asimo had the last show at the Japan Science and Technology Museum before officially retiring. Not only children but many adults came to the show to meet and say goodbye to the robot that was once stuck in their memories.
Mr. Atsushi Ozawa – Director of Communications, Museum of Science and Innovation Japan: “Asimo will not continue to perform, it’s sad. There are many people who come here and say goodbye to Asimo.”
After debuting, Asimo quickly won the hearts of everyone with his movements of running, jumping, holding hands, voice… in a masterful manner. In addition to meeting heads of state, Asimo is also brought to many educational events around the world, inspiring young people to research robotics as well as becoming a foundation for the development of future robotics technologies.
“We will have the next generation of robots after Asimo, Asimo will retire, but here we will continue to launch and demonstrate new generation robots with more modern technology,” said Mr. Atsushi. Ozawa said.
Asimo was the first robot capable of acting like a human, after that Japan developed many robots with artificial intelligence and other operability that can support life.
The museum management said that although Asimo’s performances are no longer available, people can still meet this robot at the gallery, and Asimo souvenirs will also continue to be sold. to keep this character alive in people’s hearts.
