The husband’s house has one room available, but he refuses to let my wife and I stay

My husband’s house is cramped, only two rooms. One room is Husband’s parent I stay. One room belongs to husband’s younger sister but is vacant because she is already married. I am the new bride, I thought I would be in that empty room. Unexpectedly, before the wedding day, the mother-in-law said directly that my wife and I would still sleep in the living room, and the room was empty for my brother-in-law to stay when he wanted to go back to sleep.

I was shocked. The living room is not a private place where a young couple can stay. My mother-in-law also said she would make a curtain frame to cover it so it wouldn’t be annoying. I objected immediately. The other room is empty, why not let us in to have our own space?

Seeing that my attitude was too resolute, my mother-in-law also made it tense. She said angrily: “If I have money, my husband and I will build our own house to live in. My mother loves the Nhi (my brother-in-law), doesn’t want her to come home to sleep outside the living room. Moreover, I also see that Nhi often comes back to sleep every night. When he and his wife quarrel, you must understand and sympathize with your brother.”

It is true that my brother-in-law often comes home to play and then sleep. Sometimes, she even stayed for a whole week because she was angry at her husband, waiting for her husband to come pick her up. But my wife and I sleep in the living room, inconvenient enough.

But when I discussed with my husband about borrowing money to build his own house, he refused because he was afraid of debt. He advised me to live temporarily for a few years, save money and then move on. But I resent my mother-in-law and brother-in-law too. Is there any way to get my husband to live on his own? Or how to get our mother-in-law to let us into a private room here?
