American youth have little interest in the metaverse

The big guys technology spent a lot of money on what they call the metaverse, but the new survey suggests they may have to rethink their investments.

According to NeowinPiper Sandler’s survey of 7,100 teens in the US found that less than 50% of people are interested in buying hardware to access metaverse. 9% said they will probably buy it at some point, while 26% already own hardware that supports the metaverse. Additionally, only 5% of respondents access the metaverse on a daily basis, while 82% visit several times a month.

A similar survey from analytics firm Morning Consult shows that less than half of Gen Z respondents (generation born between 1997 and 2010) surveyed are interested in Meta’s metaverse. Furthermore, only 11% ever traded crypto, while 8% ever bought NFT.

This is obviously bad news for the tech giants that have been investing heavily in the metaverse lately. They are said to be still struggling to determine what it really is, how is it different from the games in world virtual and other digital experiences, and how it adds value to our lives.

The most typical can be mentioned Meta redirected development to the metaverse and launched Horizon Worlds, while Microsoft also occasionally invests in the technology. Most recently, Sony and Lego poured $2 billion into Epic Games as a big bet on the metaverse.

At the moment, it seems that the metaverse still has a long way to go if it wants to conquer consumers official.
