A baseball show that reminds us of a short evacuation at the US Capitol

A pregnancy performance at the Washington Nationals baseball game featuring the Army’s Golden Knights prompted a short evacuation of the United States Capitol.

The US Capitol Police Evacuate briefly building on Wednesday, but later said there were no threats in a series of messages to employees and the press working there.

“The Capitol was evacuated out of an abundance of caution this evening. There is no threat at the Capitol. More details will be provided,” police said in a statement.

According to two sources from the Capitol police, there has been miscommunication between Capitol police and the organizers of these events.

The Golden Knights parachuted into the stadium, located a block from the Capitol building, as part of Army Appreciation Night.

Congress is taking a break this week, which means most lawmakers have returned to their home states and generally have fewer staff members.

Initially, the police ordered the building to be evacuated because they thought an aircraft was being tracked. “USCP is monitoring an aircraft that may pose a threat to the Capitol Complex,” an email sent to staff at the Capitol reads.
