Ly Hai When I went to school, I was the poorest in class, no one liked me

“That day, I was the second poorest in my class, called Hai ‘tv’ by everyone because there were many square patches on the back of my pants like a mobile TV.”

Known as the closest couple of artists in showbiz, MC Quyen Linh and director Ly Hai spent a youth together going to school, and starting their artistic career together.

At the program “Memory Travel”, the two male artists had the opportunity to “time travel” to find and relive memories of a time. Director Ly Hai also specially came to see MC Quyen Linh in an old car.

According to “National MC” revealed that day there were only singers Ly Hai and Ngoc Son have bicycles, if they want to borrow them, they must register a month in advance.

Childhood as a street vendor from the age of 8, earning capital from slapping ditches to catch fish and shrimp

Standing with artist Quyen Linh at My Tho Ferry, the image of a glorious childhood with street vendors constantly rushed back to Ly Hai.

He said he and his brother have been sneaking goods and selling goods on the ferry since the age of 7 or 8. Many times losing goods or being arrested is a dead man who can only stand and cry.

Artist Ly Hai recalls:Getting capital to sell is a process. When I was young, I did not have money, my family went to the ditch to catch fish and shrimp but did not dare to eat, so I went to the market to sell for capital. Going to sell is not always a smooth day, the loss is a lot. There are times when the goods are lost, sometimes when they are caught, they will lose their capital.

There is a memory with my mother that I will never forget. That day, my 10-year-old brother took me, 8 years old, and waited for my mother to pick up the goods from 5 pm to 7 pm, the two children were pale, crying, not knowing what to do.

My brother just ran alone to search along the road when he saw that his mother had an accident and was taken to the hospital. Standing alone until late at night hugging the warehouse, luckily my mother survived. That’s a milestone for our family to not let them cross the ferry anymore.”

The poorest family in the class, without a love of students “shouldering”

In middle school and high school, artist Ly Hai had an outstanding love and ability to play volleyball, so he was selected for the school team. Standing under the roof of a high school, Ly Hai couldn’t help but be moved by the memories of a time when he went to school. In particular, the appearance of his soulmate every day made him surprised and excited to recreate the shadow lines of the day.

Sharing about the memories of the days when he was still wearing a white student shirt, director Ly Hai reminisced:Once upon a time it was very precious to have a volleyball ball. My friend and I went to collect scrap metal and bottles to sell in order to buy a ball. If the ball is cracked, I’ll fix it myself. I didn’t have money to buy a fishing net, so I went to see some old volleyball courts that had been taken down, then I brought them back and tied them up with a banana string.

I also like many people but no one likes me. That day, I was the second poorest in my class. Everyone called me Hai ‘television’ because there were many square patches on the back of my pants like a mobile TV..”

From a horizontal hand is predestined with art

In the journey “Memory travel”, artists Ly Hai and Quyen Linh had the opportunity to meet again with friends from the Theater School who had experienced a glorious and difficult youth, eating together, enjoying the same share.

Even though he is the youngest, the male “national MC” still calls himself the same as his classmates. According to the artist Ly Hai, it is almost a precedent when entering the Theater School: the same class will address the same name no matter how old they are.

The whole association returned to the Central Cultural House of Tien Giang province, although the scene had changed, the emotions of the first day of drama and acting here were still the same as the first day.

Regarding the chance to fall in love with art, director Ly Hai humorously repeated: “At that time I was a sportsman, knew nothing about drama. When I heard that there was a School of Dramatic Art 2 coming down to enroll, some of my friends “incited” me to take the test, I also arranged to rush to register. At that time, there were thousands of people taking the exam, but I couldn’t speak well, so I acted like a mime but I was lucky. In the year 86, my drama class only had 9 brothers but had to pass more than 1000 people.”

It is from such small skits that the artistic life of an artist begins. After many ups and downs, now everyone has their own direction: someone who is still active in art, someone who makes a “golden scissors”, a human resource manager. But no matter how many years, the closeness of friends and the memories of a time sticking together will last forever.

One of the close friends revealed what year the horror car of artists Ly Hai and Quyen Linh. “There was a special incident, that time, the provincial Department of Culture gave priority to brothers to ride dasu cars to the city, the car’s shell exploded leading to the car’s overturn, Quyen Linh was injured in the eye with blood splashing, some people were injured. Broken arm, some people are okay. Fortunately, there was no Ly Hai on that bus because there was not enough space, Hai had to wait for the next bus.”
