Last year, Land Rover introduced the main V8 version for Defender after the launch of its iconic SUV line. However, this is definitely not the most advanced configuration of Land Rover Defender, even more likely this is only the third version considering that the company is testing many different versions of Land Rover Defender V8 at the same time.
This week, a new Land Rover Defender made an appearance at the “Green Hell” Nurburgring. Many elements appear on the car that this is not a pure speed version, but tends to focus on off-road ability (the core element of the old Defender), such as off-road wheels with BF Goodrich tires multi-terrain.
In addition, the quad exhaust system at the rear shows that underneath the bonnet is a 5.0L V8 engine with a capacity of 518 horsepower on the regular version. If Land Rover Defender really has an off-road version, it is likely that this will be a limited configuration developed by the company in cooperation with the Bowler tuner, which was acquired by JRL in 2019.
When acquiring Bowler, JLR, specifically the managing director of the Special Vehicle Operations division Michael van der Sande, admitted that the British group did not have many models aimed at the off-road segment. In Land Rover’s current lineup, Defender is the name that seems best suited to add such a configuration.
An elongated version of the Land Rover Defender (130) is also being developed in parallel.
The name Land Rover Defender off-road version is said to be the usual SVR or SVX – the suffix used for the Discovery off-road concept launched in 2017.
