Prime Ministers of Spain and Denmark visit Ukraine

The Spanish Prime Minister’s office said that Pedro Sanchez had just arrived in Kiev and was expected to meet with President Zelensky.

On his Twitter account, Mr. Sanchez posted an image showing the Danish Prime Minister in Kiev on the morning of April 21.

For its part, the Danish Prime Minister’s Office said that the parties will discuss the meeting Russia-Ukraine conflict and humanitarian assistance to the people of Ukraine.

In addition, both Spain and Denmark pledged to send more weapons to Ukraine as Russia stepped up its offensive in the eastern Donbass region.

The two leaders visited Ukraine after a number of other European leaders, including European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen, leaders of Great Britain, Czech, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia also came to Kiev after Russia opened Special military operation in Ukraine.

The purpose of these symbolic visits is said to be to show support for Mr. Zelensky’s administration.

On April 18, Spain’s Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that the country has received 134,000 Ukrainians, of which 64,000 have received temporary protection for accommodation and work permits.

The Madrid government has also sent about 10 planes to Ukraine carrying “hundreds of tons” of weapons and humanitarian aid.

Prime Minister Sanchez announced that Spain will reopen its embassy in Kiev in the next few days.

The Spanish embassy was temporarily closed for security reasons, a day after Russia began a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24.
