Chief of Office of Hai Phong City People’s Committee Nguyen Ngoc Tu said that the ship crash into Hoang Van Thu bridge did not cause environmental problems. The Civil Engineering Project Management Board will coordinate with the consulting agencies to assess the safety of the bridge and embankment, if it is new to ensure operation.

The People’s Committee of Ngo Quyen district was assigned to take charge of handling the incident and the Hai Phong Port Authority to coordinate with superior specialized agencies to verify the cause of the ship drifting and crashing into the Hoang Van Thu bridge.

At around 3:30 p.m. on April 21, the Outrivaling 3 ship, more than 118 meters long, 19 meters wide, loaded with cargo with a total tonnage of more than 12,000 tons, crashed under the Hoang Van Thu bridge, on the riverside in Hong Bang district. The crane tower on the ship got stuck under the bridge, the stern part hit the embankment, knocking down the 10 m long railing and the lights.

To ensure the safety of people and vehicles crossing Hoang Van Thu bridge, Hai Phong City People’s Committee banned the bridge from 4pm yesterday.

Hoang Van Thu Bridge crosses Cam River, 1,570 m long, 33.5 m wide, including 4 lanes for motor vehicles, 2 lanes for mixed traffic and 2 sidewalks for walking. The bridge has 3 spans, the main span is 200 m long with a clearance height of 25 m. The total investment of the project is more than 2,170 billion VND.
