Seaweed covers the beach in Quang Ninh

Dense dead seaweed washed up on Hong Van beach, Dong Tien commune, Co To district but has not been cleaned up.

Hong Van beach is more than 3 km long, located far from the mainland. To get here, people and tourists have to take a speedboat from Cai Rong port which takes about an hour.

On the afternoon of April 23, thousands of tourists came here, but many people were upset because the seaweed died and washed up on the beach stretching many kilometers. The seaweed is in layers, in the process of decomposing but not being cleaned up.

Mr. Nam, from Hanoi, shared: “On the weekend, the whole family chose to go to Co To island, but coming here feels very sad because there is too much seaweed, covering the whole beach. This time there are many tourists traveling. but here is still so unhygienic”.

Ms. Huyen, a resident of Dong Tien commune, said that dead seaweed had washed ashore for nearly a month, but it had not been cleaned up. The seaweed does not cause a stench but has a fishy smell.

“Seaweed lives the most in the rocky coastal areas. In March and April every year, the old seaweed dies and washes up. In May, this phenomenon will no longer exist,” Ms. Huyen said.
