HOT: Ukraine counter-attacks in Kharkiv, claiming that Russia suffered heavy losses

An adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky admitted this morning that Ukraine had suffered “serious losses” during the war, but claimed Russia’s losses were “more terrible”.

“We have serious losses but the Russians’ losses are much greater… They have terrible losses,” said presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych.

Mr. Arestovych also acknowledged that Russia had succeeded in capturing more territory and some Ukrainian towns in the past week, but stressed that it had also taken a heavy toll on the Russian military.

Zelensky’s office also said that Russia is continuing to bombard the front lines in the Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine with artillery and bombs.

The Ukrainian government also announced that it was planning to evacuate hundreds of civilians living in the giant steel plant inside the besieged city of Mariupol in the southeastern part of the country.
