Japan found the wreck of a sunken and missing cruise ship

Service cruise ship sinking in Japan killed at least 14 people during a sightseeing trip.

Japan’s public broadcaster NHK said the wreck of the Kazu 1 was located in waters about 100 m (328 ft) deep off the Shiretoko peninsula on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

The ship sank and went missing on April 23, a few hours after departing for a tour of the peninsula, known for its rugged coastal scenery and wildlife.

At the time of the incident shipwreck, there were 26 people on board, including two children and two crew members. Japan Coast Guard officials said 14 people were killed, the rest are still missing.

Previously, the Japan Coast Guard received a notice of the ship’s sinking at about 13:15 on April 23 (local time) and said that at 17:30 on the same day, they still had not found the ship. Kazu 1 as well as the people on board.

At about 3pm on April 23, before losing contact, the crew member reported to the operator that the ship was tilted 30 degrees.

High waves and strong winds took place in the area where the ship sank around midday. The fishing boats of the local fisheries cooperative had to return to port before noon because of bad weather.
