The rooftop garden is enviously peaceful in the bustling city of housewives
Owning a garden with a variety of flowers seems to be “unthinkable” in a crowded city. Yet, Miss Tam – a middle-aged housewife can do it right on the roof of her house.
The small garden on the terrace, which Ms. Tam has taken care of for the past 5 years, has now grown extremely well. Every frame inside the garden makes you think you are lost in a fairyland.
About 5 years ago, after having the opportunity to visit a friend’s garden in the suburbs, Ms. Tam wanted to create her own garden. It’s easy to think, but when you start doing it, you know it’s difficult. Living in the middle of a narrow city with no garden, she made the decision to renovate the terrace into a small garden.
First, to create a sense of space for the garden, Ms. Tam fenced the terrace with wooden fences, large and small window frames. To save money, Ms. Tam buys and asks for discarded door panels to be repainted to use in her garden.
In addition, she also makes use of old furniture such as wooden tables and stools to arrange potted plants into many floors, increasing the usable area inside the small garden.
After completing the initial step of shaping the garden, it is time to choose the plants in the terrace garden. Also because of its location on a high floor, Ms. Tam’s small garden has a good light source, suitable for many different plants.
Some of the flowers planted by Ms. Tam first inside the garden can be named such as lilies, lilies, dahlias, and hydrangeas.
Over time, not only has the number of potted plants in the garden increased, but the varieties are also increasingly diverse. Friends who stop by often liken Ms. Tam’s rooftop garden to a “small forest” in the heart of the city. The interweaving between colorful flowers and green leaves makes the scene of the terrace garden extremely romantic and poetic.
Amidst the rare peaceful scene in the heart of the city at the terrace garden, Ms. Tam often spends her free time taking care of her flower pots. Sometimes, she likes to sit in the middle of the flower garden reading books and drinking tea. Occasionally, she organizes “tours” inside the garden with close friends.
However, having a small garden of your own is not only purely relaxing time, but also takes a lot of work. The potted plants in the garden all need to be watered, fertilized, sprayed, weeded and changed the soil. All of these are jobs that a gardener needs to know. To do these things also requires a lot of time and effort.
Asked if she knew in advance that taking care of a garden would be so hard, would she choose to do it or not, Ms. Tam gave a definite answer, would still do it. Living in the middle of a narrow, smoky city, it’s hard to find a peaceful and pleasant scene like this terrace garden, so why not do it.
