Amruta Kshemkalyani of the environmental protection organization Sustainability Tribe in the UAE said:Since the pandemic, when traveling is difficult, more and more people are interested in the form of picnic tourism, enjoying nature. But many people do not understand, when they go to enjoy nature, be aware of preserving those values; Don’t just leave all the trash behind“.

The figures show that, on average, each visitor emits 4 times more waste than a local resident, especially plastic waste.

The trend of outdoor tourism is bringing difficult problems for environmental officials. If before, cleaning activities could be concentrated at famous tourist sites, now tourists go anywhere. Human footprints, sand can be erased, but garbage can’t.

Ms. Fatimah of the Tadweer environmental sanitation company in the UAE said: “Many parts of this desert are facing the problem of garbage. Not many people have the sense of self-cleaning. When we went to remind them, they said it was someone else’s business“.

Places that have never been inhabited by humans, such as the desert, are now threatened by garbage.

The pandemic makes people more eager to enjoy the value of nature, but invisibly is stimulating the destruction of the environment through the waste of picnics.

Mr. Waleed Alyafei, UAE resident, shared: “More and more people realize the beauty of the desert. There’s a lot to explore there. But again how that beauty will be depends greatly on human consciousness“.

Desert nations that were already disadvantaged in terms of resources are now facing an invasion of garbage.
