The dilapidated huts on the semi-submerged land of Dau Tieng lake in Ta Do hamlet have become shelters from rain and sun for hundreds of households. The temporary life in this area has caused many problems, especially environmental pollution.

Dau Tieng Lake, in addition to providing irrigation water, is also a source of water for treatment plants to supply domestic water inside and outside Tay Ninh province.

The whole district of Tan Chau currently has more than 950 households, with more than 4,800 people who are free migrants from Cambodia to live. The largest number of migrants is in Tan Thanh commune with nearly 500 households.

According to the People’s Committee of Tan Thanh commune (Tan Chau district), since 2005, only a few households have migrated from Bien Ho area (Cambodia) to Ta Do hamlet.

After that, dozens, then hundreds of households came to live in this area. Over time, Ta Do hamlet has formed a temporary settlement of Dau Tieng lake.

However, up to now, Ta Do hamlet still has more than 170 households, with more than 770 people living temporarily along Dau Tieng lake.

In the resettlement area (Dong Ken hamlet 2), houses were built as stable accommodation, with sanitation facilities. People here also have access to clean water for daily life.

The area of Ta Do hamlet has no sanitation facilities. People live on stilts. Garbage is thrown everywhere, even thrown into Dau Tieng Lake.

There is no toilet, so dealing with personal hygiene needs is discharged directly into the lake bed, polluting the environment and affecting public health.
