A 2-year-old dog named Zeus (of the Great Dane breed) in Bedford, Texas, USA has just been recognized by Guinness as the tallest dog in the world with a height of 1,046m when standing upright on 4 legs.

Brittany Davis – Zeus’s owner said that since being adopted at 8 weeks old, the dog has grown continuously. “He is a very large dog, from the moment we adopted him, even though he was only a small dog, his paws were very large,” the woman said.

Zeus was born in the same litter with 5 other puppies, he was the largest dog in that litter. Like most Great Danes, Zeus grew very quickly. Zeus is tall so he can use the sink as a place to drink his water.

According to Brittany, the cost of raising the world’s tallest dog is not cheap. In the morning, Zeus ate up to 12 cups of Gentle Giants food for large breed dogs and in the afternoon, 6 more cups to get enough energy.

“When Zeus is hungry, he will run around the house for about 30 seconds and climb on a chair when he gets tired,” Brittany said. She added that the dog sometimes eats fried eggs and his favorite food is ice cubes.

Its height has dislodged all dogs, causing many people and children in the area to think that Zeus is really a horse. Ms. Davis said people often say “Oh, that’s a horse”, “Can I ride it?”, “Does it have a saddle?”…

Brittany Davis said: “Zeus has completely changed our family. He’s such a lovable, docile dog that never lets his owner get mad at him for being naughty or destructive. It’s so much fun. It’s amazing that I can now say that this is the tallest dog I’ve ever seen. Definitely, he’s a record holder, recognized by Guinness World Records.”

The Great Dane breed is descended from medieval hunting dogs. This is a large and gentle domestic dog breed. They have a strong body, long strong legs, straight front legs and very muscular hind legs. They are usually 71-86cm tall and weigh 45-90kg.

Although they are taller than other dog breeds, they suffer from a number of health problems and tend to have a shorter lifespan than other breeds.

Previously, the Guinness record for the tallest dog in the world belonged to Freddy, also of the Great Dane breed. The animal is 1,035m tall from foot to shoulder, setting the world’s tallest record. When standing upright, it reaches 2.26m high, exceeding the head of a human. However, Freddy passed away in 2021, living at the age of 8.5 years.
