Revealing the “shock” after the loss of the Vietnamese volleyball team at the SEA Games

The Vietnamese men’s volleyball team unfortunately lost to Indonesia due to many members suffering from food poisoning.

On the afternoon of May 15, the Vietnamese men’s volleyball team had the second match in Group A against Indonesia. This is also the top match of the group. With the home field advantage, the Vietnamese smashers played overwhelmingly and soon took the lead before winning 25/21 in the first set.

But since the second set, the home team’s athletes began to lose strength when they lost with the scores of 15/25, 21/25 and 14/25 respectively, thereby being won by the upstream opponent 3- first. After the match, the training board of the Vietnamese men’s volleyball team said that since the second set, the smashers began to show a rapid decline in fitness and let the opponent beat easily.

It is known that the cause of this is because some members of the team unfortunately got food poisoning before the match. Specifically, after dinner on May 14, some beaters such as Quan Trong Nghia, Duong Van Tien, Nguyen Dinh Nhu or Cu Van Hoan appeared to have abdominal pain, diarrhea and dehydration. Most of these athletes only played 1-2 sets before being substituted.

Coach Li Huan Ning of the Vietnam men’s volleyball team shared: “Many members of the team had health problems and they could not express themselves in the match.”

According to the schedule, at 19:00 on May 18, the Vietnamese men’s volleyball team will play the last match of the group stage against Myanmar.
