According to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), the prices of steel materials fluctuated oppositely after the Russia-Ukraine tension affected the market. construction steel price domestic.

Specifically, the price of iron ore grade (62% Fe) on May 9 traded at 139 USD/ton CFR Tianjin port, China, down about 16 USD/ton compared to the beginning of April. This price decreased. about 71-73 USD/ton compared to the highest price recorded in early May 2021 (210 – 212 USD/ton).

Domestic steel prices fell due to the large inventory at dealers. Meanwhile, the export of steel to the Chinese market is also difficult because the country is fighting the Covid-19 epidemic, causing construction activities to stall.

By the end of April, construction steel inventories at factories were about 900,000 tons, nearly double the same period last year.

Hoa Phat Group also recently said that sales of construction steel in April reached nearly 300,000 tons, down 30% compared to the same period last year, mainly because the inventory at dealers from the previous month was still low. .

China’s Bureau of Statistics said that in the first four months of the year, China produced 336.15 million tons of steel, down 10.3% year-on-year. This leads to a large inventory of steel at Chinese factories and a slowdown in Vietnam’s steel exports.

Vietnam’s construction steel exports in April fell sharply by 44% compared to March and only increased slightly by nearly 5% compared to 2021. Weakened exports, reduced domestic consumption of input materials also cooled down along with the decline. while putting pressure on steel prices in domestic construction.
