High-ranking Iranian officer assassinated

The victim was Colonel Sayyad Khodaei, a senior member of the elite Quds force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The incident happened at around 4:00 p.m. local time and the victim did not survive.

Two gunmen on motorbikes fired five shots at the victim as he was about to get out of his car to enter his home in the eastern part of Tehran.

No organization has yet admitted to carrying out the assassination attempt. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has criticized the assassination.

Khodaei’s murder comes two years after the killings of Iranian nuclear scientist and Quds force commander General Soleimani.
