Rolls-Royce Boat Tail – super product inspired by mother of pearl

The second Boat Tail model of the super-luxury mother-of-pearl-inspired model, can be sold for the same $28 million as the first one.

Rolls-Royce introduced the second Boat Tail to the public at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, Italy, on May 21. The ultra-luxury model was created for a special client as a gift out of homage to forefathers and family history.

The first Boat Tail model will be released in 2021, and Rolls-Royce says it is producing a third, but information is currently kept secret. The price of the second Boat Tail has also not been announced, but experts say all three are priced at about $ 28 million.

The convertible design gives engineers the freedom to make customizations in collaboration with customers. Like the first model, the aluminum chassis and bodywork share the same platform as the Phantom, with the same 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. However, the detailed characteristics are almost completely different from the first model.

Rolls-Royce did not disclose the identity of the customer but said the owner is an art collector with a large collection of both classic and modern cars housed in a private museum. The mother-of-pearl theme was chosen for the buyer to dedicate to his father because he comes from the pearl industry.

Therefore, the car-building process will begin with the selection of four models of mussel shells from the customer’s private collection, providing inspiration for the designers. As a result, exterior coloring is one of the most complex custom finishes that Rolls-Royce has ever created.

This color, known as pale pink, changes depth and shade depending on lighting conditions. However, Rolls-Royce says this paint color is created by a mixture of gray, pale pink, with white debris and copper creating a unique iridescent pearl color that changes dynamically in different conditions. different light.

The Boat Tail’s Pantheon grille and bonnet are painted in a contrasting Cognac color, matching the interior tones. However, this is no ordinary Cognac paint because it is embedded in copper and gold aluminum chips, covered with a clear crystal clear polish. Rolls-Royce uses carbon fiber throughout the lower part of the car, including the front / rear bumpers and the bottom edge of the door.

The rear end retains the butterfly design, but instead of Caleidolegno veneer like in the first Boat Tail, the second car uses walnut wood with gilded splints and finished with a glossy paint. Over time, this veneer will closely resemble the Cognac color of the bonnet.

The cabin is a combination of Cognac and gray for the leather, with many accents in walnut and rose gold. Mother-of-pearl material is used on the control keys, in the instrument cluster and on the dashboard clock.

Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös describes the car’s creation as a “high fashion” product of the auto industry, just days after rival brand Mercedes-Maybach uses the same term for the German automaker’s distinctive S-class name. However, Maybach still has a long way to go before getting the personalization like on Rolls-Royce Boat Tail.
