SEA Games 31 volunteers: Connecting cultural values, spreading Vietnamese beauty

The recruitment of volunteers for the 31st SEA Games started in February 2022 with about 5,000 applications registered by young people. More than 3,000 volunteers have been carefully evaluated and selected by the organizers based on the criteria of appearance, foreign language ability, sense of responsibility and must ensure health.

The volunteers are mainly students from universities in Hanoi, participating in training and training to be able to meet the needs of the Congress.

Volunteers participate in the following tasks: leading international sports delegations, supporting VIP guests, receptionists, guiding guests to sit in the stands, awarding MCs, interpreting at press conferences.. .

Vo Nguyen Tra My (First-year student at Diplomatic Academy – Bilingual MC, interpreter at SEA Games 31) shared, the opportunity came to me as a surprise when Bac Giang province posted a Bilingual MC.

Although the work is a bit hard, Tra My is still very enthusiastic: “There are many days when I have to move continuously between Hanoi and Bac Giang to both secure work and attend school, so the working time is not permanent.

Normally, I will get up at 3 am to go to Bac Giang, then practice the award program at the Gymnasium, move to the professional meeting room to practice interpreting, prepare for the Welcome Party. The next morning, I woke up again at 3am to get back to Hanoi.”

In order to prepare for a smooth SEA Games, Tra My has prepared very carefully: “For the task of an MC, I just need to practice the script carefully and learn how to read the athletes’ names. However, in order to work as an interpreter in professional meetings, I had to find similar videos on Youtube to visualize the meeting, and memorize many specialized terms to serve my work.”

As a volunteer in charge of many different tasks, Luu Gia Huy (First year student at Diplomatic Academy) still can’t forget the feeling of excitement. Huy confided, the road to the SEA Games is a long one, but the SEA Games have brought invaluable experiences: “The volunteers will arrive early before the matches to take attendance, prepare personal belongings, Dissemination of tasks, notes, requirements. Then we will return to the assigned positions and perform the task. The positions can be supporting spectators, supporting teams of athletes and foreigners in the gymnasium, assisting in guiding and controlling at the gates and entrances of the gymnasium…”

Nghiem Viet Trinh (First-year student at Dai Nam University) said, being selected as a Volunteer for SEA Games 31 is a great opportunity: “When there was an announcement to recruit Volunteers, I signed up immediately. Because I know this opportunity will only come to me once. I’m so glad I got accepted, to be a part of this activity, but also a little nervous and excited.”

“There are many referees who want to learn more about Vietnam such as Northern cuisine and specialties. We all support and are always ready to bring back specialties for the referees. Even though these are just jobs. It’s very small, but I, like other volunteers, can contribute to promoting Vietnamese culture to international tourists,” Thu Huong shared.

SEA Games has ended, but great memories will remain in each of us forever.
