Canadian police shoot down gun-wielding suspect near elementary school

The police force responded after receiving a report of a man in his 20s carrying a rifle near the Scarborough Harbor area at 1pm on May 26, local time.
Witnesses said they heard three gunshots and saw police trying to control the subject.
At a press conference on the same day, Police Chief James Ramer announced the case was closed and there was no further threat to the safety of the community. However, police will increase patrols in the area.
“Due to the proximity to a school, I understand very well the obsession with school staff, students and parents, especially in light of the recent tragedies that have occurred in the United States.” said Ramer police.
On May 24, the United States witnessed the deadliest school shooting in a decade. Nineteen children and two teachers were killed when an 18-year-old gunman attacked an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
Ramer said he could not comment further as the city’s Special Investigations unit will conduct an investigation.
