It is known that this is the outside of the garbage collection point of Thang Long Environmental Sanitation Company. Every day, the amount of waste dumped into this area increases, trucks continuously carry tens of tons of waste to this location to gather and pour it all over the road, fields, and canals. Construction waste and used domestic waste are not classified but piled up in large piles. It was sunny, the stench rose up; On rainy days, dark streams of water flow all over the canals, fields, ponds, causing serious water pollution.

More seriously, according to the people here, this open-air garbage dump has been operating for many years and has not gone through any garbage treatment system…

Mr. Nguyen Van Khanh, a resident of Ha Hoi commune (Thuong Tin district) who has a field right next to it, said: “This garbage dump has existed for many years, causing environmental pollution and seriously affecting life. people’s activities. Garbage is piled up in large piles, when the wind is strong, the garbage is blown away, the stench rises. The garbage here has affected the water source, the environment is “killed”, people face the risk of disease.

According to Mr. Khanh, although this is an open-air landfill that has not been treated through steps to ensure environmental hygiene, workers here also dump garbage on the road to collect National Highway 1, affecting the traffic situation.

“The landfill is about 500m away from my house, but every time it gets windy, the stench goes straight into every house, the air is stuffy and it’s hard to breathe. The worst part is when the whole family gathers around the tray of rice, even though the door is closed, the smell of garbage is still overwhelming. Many times, the rice is already served, but I have to skip the meal because I can’t stand it,” Khanh reflected in a rather frustrated mood.

Garbage dumps spread to the fields of people in Ha Hoi and Thuong Tin communes.

According to the people here, this garbage dump has been in operation for many years, but it is dumped in the open, without any waste treatment system… Moreover, a large part of the waste remains spilled onto the roadway, affecting traffic and travel problems of people.

Many people passing through the road also expressed frustration and felt very uncomfortable by the stench arising from domestic waste.

The improper collection of waste also affects the general environmental landscape, as well as the goal of building rural areas into livable countryside like in Thuong Tin district.
