In 2017, Ms. Cam Lai and her colleagues at VTC Television went to the Spratly Islands to work. On the fishing boat KN-49, she met Mr. Quan – one of the two representatives of the Vietnamese community in Angola – participating in this trip.

“At that time, I invited him to give an interview. At first, it was a story of asking back and forth. Then, a colleague of his sister told him that he was still not married. At that time, he was also 30 years old, his family also urged him to do so. I choose you as my target“, Cam Lai recalls.

As for Quan, when he was in contact with the lovely and energetic journalist, he immediately fell in love. Cam Lai is also the person who helps him to be more confident when speaking in front of crowds and has the opportunity to share about the life of relatives abroad.

During 10 days living on the island, all communication methods such as phone and internet were cut off. It was also an interesting experience that left the most beautiful and happy memories of Ms. Lai, Mr. Quan and nearly 200 members on the train to Truong Sa.

Ms. Lai revealed that she was the one who actively flirted with the other party. When she officially returned to her husband’s house, she discovered that her husband’s family was rich. After 1 year since that fateful meeting, the young journalist and the overseas Vietnamese man became a husband and wife.

“When I confessed my feelings, Mr. Quan said he already had a girlfriend. So, apart from the first impressions and conversations, my husband and I still kept a certain distance.

Honestly, I’m sad. But inherently strong, I said: I have a girlfriend, but I did not get it. Are you planning to get married? He also said no. Then the opportunity is divided equally for all. I keep my opinion that if you’re not married, I’m not the one to interfere.”.

When he returned to the mainland, Mr. Quan returned to Angola to continue his work. The two still maintain a friendship, occasionally texting each other to ask and care about each other. On the occasion that Mr. Quan returned to Vietnam, the two still gathered with friends and were matched by everyone.

On New Year’s Eve 2018, Ms. Cam Lai and Mr. Quan had a coffee date. That time, the reporter frankly offered options for the overseas Vietnamese boy.

“I say this: ‘If you decide to marry her, you should go ahead because you are also 40 years old. If you don’t marry her, then you will marry me, thank you. And sure. sure, you’re never disappointed. You shouldn’t be looking for another option.’ I also said you give me time to think”.

The next day, Mr. Quan invited Lai to Dalat as tacit confirmation of his choice.

“To this day, I still joke: Poor me, life is not supposed to propose but to propose backwards. That trip to Da Lat was also a wedding photography trip. Later I found out, when I gave 3 options, I ended the relationship with my ex for a long time and made the decision to marry me“.

After the challenges to realize their lifelong companion, the couple encounters opposition from the groom’s family. But thanks to Cam Lai’s skillful behavior, everything was resolved quickly.

“The mother objected to the age issue because she was afraid that her two children would not be happy. But then I believe that if you are sincere, she will love you. Indeed, before the wedding day, my mother gave me a ring from her old days. She said it was not valuable but it was a gift for the eldest daughter-in-law. But in the end, she prioritized me (the second daughter-in-law) and made me emotional and cried a lot.”.

When Lai got pregnant and gave birth to a child, her mother-in-law always took care of her little by little: “Her children take care of her, her food and water are all prepared. Sometimes she even changes the bed sheets, helps clean up and buys delicious food.“.
