U23 Vietnam to play friendly U23 UAE: Useful test, what are the results?

U23 Vietnam had a precious friendly match against strong opponent U23 UAE on the evening of May 28.

On the evening of May 28, Vietnam U23 team had a practice match with the UAE U23 team within the framework of a training session in Dubai. This is also the only friendly match of our players before entering the Asian U23 tournament starting on June 1.

Because there was only one match to test the squad and review the gameplay, coach Gong Oh-kyun made the most of the opportunity to give all players the opportunity to express themselves. In this match, U23 Vietnam tested a 4-3-3 diagram and created a fairly balanced game with the opponent. Unfortunately, the players did not successfully take advantage of the opportunity, while the opposing team was very sharp in the finishing phase. Despite losing 3 goals, but coach Gong Oh-kyun still expressed satisfaction and assessed that U23 Vietnam had completed the task.

Speaking after the match, coach Gong Oh Kyun praised the players: “Today, the U23 Vietnam player performed well. Before the 31st SEA Games took place, we gathered and worked together for a while. After the SEA Games, the team reunited and practiced together. Although it was only a few days of training together, what the players showed was beyond my expectations. I have high hopes for the performance of the players in the upcoming matches.”

Explaining about wanting to apply a 4-3-3 diagram for U23 Vietnam, a diagram that is somewhat different from the time of Coach Park Hang Seo, Mr. Gong Oh Kyun said: “I don’t want to talk much about tactics. The 4-3-3 that I used for Vietnam U23. I consider that my level of player is capable of playing such a comprehensive football, I believe that is the right strategy for U23 Vietnam. I hope the players will perform even better in the coming time.”

According to the plan, U23 Vietnam will move to Uzbekistan to compete in the AFC U23 Championship 2022 at noon on May 29 local time. In the opening match of the tournament, U23 Vietnam will meet U23 Thailand on June 2. Next, U23 Vietnam will meet U23 Korea on June 5 before playing the final match of the group stage against U23 Malaysia on June 8.
