Mr. Le Van Gioi (born in 1958, residing in Hoa Xuan ward, Cam Le district, Da Nang) is a farmer, used to be a “boss” of rice production in Hoa Xuan. However, after urbanization, there was no longer any land to grow rice, so he began to learn and fall in love with mushroom farming.

“Seeing that growing mushrooms is fun and easy, so I started doing it and maintained it for many years. At first, I planted a little, worked while gaining experience, only worked about 5-10kg a day because at that time people here did not know how to eat mushrooms, “said Gioi.

In 2015, he started growing mushrooms in the direction of economic development for his family with an area of ​​200m2, a capacity of 20,000 bags of mushroom embryos. The first batch of mushrooms he earned 20 million dong after deducting expenses.

Realizing that the demand for mushroom consumption is increasing, 2 years ago, he borrowed the People’s Committee of the ward 1,200m2 of land in Hoa Xuan to build a mushroom farm, invested more than 100 million dong in a mushroom embryo production line to ensure quality, increase productivity.

According to Mr. Gioi, local people are very fond of abalone mushrooms, eaten all year round, so he only focuses on producing this mushroom. In the rainy season, he planted more reishi mushrooms. Each year his family produces about 45,000 bags of mushroom embryos.

On average, he sells 1 quintal of mushrooms per day. Particularly on the full moon day and the 1st day, the sales volume is 5-7 times higher, about 5-7 quintals/day. With the selling price of 50,000 VND/kg, the daily revenue of the mushroom farm is 5 million VND. The produced mushrooms are sold at markets in Da Nang city and districts of Quang Nam province.

Not only creating a source of income for the family, now Mr. Gioi’s mushroom farm also creates jobs for 7 local workers with a salary of 200,000 VND/day (about 20-25 workers per month).

Mr. Gioi’s mushroom farm also produces bags of mushroom embryos to sell to farmers who have production needs. On average, each bag of embryos costs 6,000 VND. The raw materials for making mushroom embryos include rubber sawdust, bran powder, yeast… According to Mr. Gioi, every year after deducting costs, he makes more than 300 million VND from growing mushrooms.

Talking about his experience in growing mushrooms, Mr. Gioi shared that the most important thing for mushroom growing is to ensure temperature, humidity, light, and a clean and cool environment for mushrooms to grow.

Although abalone mushroom is easy, it requires correct technical requirements if the bag does not shrivel or the mushroom meows turns green, the mycelium slows down. The most suitable temperature is about 27-30 degrees Celsius…

According to Mr. Gioi, compared with farming, mushroom growing model is simple, less expensive and brings high economic value. However, the weather is now more severe, so it is more difficult to grow mushrooms, to ensure productivity and efficiency, mushroom growers must firmly grasp techniques and invest in technology.
