Pham Van Quyen’s life after 17 years of receiving a heavy fine from VFF

For fans of the king’s sport, especially the 8X and early 9X generations, surely there will be no stranger to the name Pham Van Quyen (SN 1984, from Hung Nguyen, Nghe An).

He was once called the village prodigy football Viet because he soon became famous at a very young age.

It is known that before making a career with digital shorts and quickly becoming famous, Van Quyen was born in a poor family. 8X’s childhood was miserable when he had to follow his mother to work in the fields.

In his spare time, he often plays soccer with the children in the village, as a game entertainment. It is the same game that helps the Nghe striker have a predestined career in digital shorts.

Accordingly, in 1996, he caught the eye of Song Lam Nghe An football. Although he came from an amateur football team, at the age of 14, he became the top scorer at the national youth soccer tournament.

It is these outstanding successes that he received the best player award of the U16 tournament.

Outstanding performance, he was quickly called up National team under Coach Calisto. In particular, in the match against the Korean team at the 2004 Asian Cup, thanks to Quyen’s only goal, the Vietnamese team defeated a difficult opponent from the land of kimchi for the first time.

Thinking that his career was on the rise, at the 23rd SEA Games in the Philippines, he got involved in a match-fixing scandal in the match against Myanmar.

With the amount of 20 million sold, he had to exchange it with a 2-year suspended prison sentence and a suspension from all tournaments organized by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) for 4 years.

After the sentence ended, Van Quyen joined a club in Ninh Binh. However, his career has declined quite a lot compared to the period at its peak.

Retired in 2014, Van Quyen returned to his hometown, leading the youth team of Song Lam Nghe An. The students he coached achieved many achievements in football tournaments big and small.

Regarding his private life, he has a perfect marriage with his very beautiful wife. They got married in 2014. After 8 years together, the two have 2 lovely daughters.

Van Quyen himself many times shared that his wife is a solid rear, always behind to encourage him when he has difficulties. For him, it is not only a bedmate but also a soul mate.
