Forum Economy Vietnam for the 4th time with the theme “Building an independent and self-sufficient economy associated with extensive economic integration in the new situation” was organized by the Central Economic Commission in collaboration with other departments, ministries and sectors.

At this forum, specific orientations on national risk management in the new context, development of the digital economy and promotion of digital society… in the coming period will be clarified.

Vietnam’s economic development achievements after 35 years of doi moi have turned Vietnam into a low-middle-income country with a GDP per capita of about 3,700 USD and the poverty rate decreasing to about 2%. The policy of openness and extensive international economic integration has brought Vietnam remarkable development steps.

“So far, we have signed 15 trade agreements, including very meaningful new-generation agreements, such as CPTPP or EVFTA. Through international integration and trade agreements. This has helped our economy be included in the top 20 countries with the largest commercial scale in the world”, said Mr. Tran Quoc Phuong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment.

However, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out on a global scale with increasingly complicated developments, it revealed many problems of the economy that needed to be overcome.

In that context, it is imperative to continue to effectively and substantively implement the goals of restructuring the economy and renewing the growth model to create a foundation for development in the medium and long term. .

“The focus of the Forum is on discussing and clarifying the content of Vietnam’s economic independence and self-reliance in the new context and conditions; at the same time, proposing major undertakings, policies and measures. to strengthen and promote the internal strength of the economy, contributing to improving the competitiveness and resilience of the economy to external shocks”, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Thanh Phong said.

“The Party and State’s policy on building an independent, autonomous and integrated economy is absolutely correct. Here, we also need to understand that independence is not isolation, autonomy is not that they separate themselves from the international economy,” emphasized Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The 13th National Congress of the Party has also set a goal that by 2045, Vietnam will become a developed and high-income country. The building of an independent and self-reliant economy associated with proactive and active international integration, in the context of safe, flexible adaptation and effective control of COVID-19 will be the foundation for implementation. successfully accomplish the set goals and tasks.
