On the same day, Zelenskiy called on the West to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine to help it repel the Russian army.

On June 1, US President Joe Biden announced a new $700 million security assistance package for Ukraine, including advanced missile systems. The move brings the total US military assistance to Ukraine to about $4.6 billion since Russia launched a military operation against the neighboring country on February 24.

I announce a meaningful new security assistance package aimed at providing timely and important aid to the Ukrainian military. This new package of support will equip the Ukrainian forces with new capabilities and modern weapons, including the HIMARS system for the country to defend its territory.,” said a statement from President Biden.

This aid package includes highly mobile multiple rocket launcher systems (HIMARS) – weapons that can accurately hit targets up to 80 km away. In addition to artillery systems, the new aid package also includes ammunition, radar, Javelin anti-tank missiles and a number of other anti-tank weapons.

According to information from the Pentagon, in the immediate future, the US will provide Ukraine with 4 HIMARS systems and need 3 weeks to train Ukrainian servicemen to operate.

Germany also plans to deliver four Mars II missile launchers from its military stockpile to Ukraine by the end of June. The United States will assist with the transfer and train Ukrainian troops to use these systems.

In addition to Mars II, Berlin will supply Ukraine with the Iris-T air defense system – the most modern system in Germany. Chancellor Scholz believes that the Iris-T can “defend a large city from attacks from the Russian air force.” Berlin also sent a radar system to help repel attacks from Russia.
