Melatonin poisoning in children is increasing, the number of monkeypox cases in France is twice as high

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a warning about an increase in the number of poisoning cases in children linked to the use of melatonin – a supplement used to aid sleep.

In 2021, US poison control centers received more than 52,000 calls about children’s melatonin use – a sixfold increase from about 10 years earlier. Most of the calls mentioned above were about children accidentally ingesting melatonin from their parents. The number of children with melatonin poisoning has particularly increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number of monkeypox cases in France has doubled

French health officials said there were 33 cases of monkeypox as of June 1, almost double the 17 cases a few days earlier. Health officials warn people to pay attention to the signs of the disease and to see a doctor as soon as symptoms appear.

The World Health Organization has warned that monkeypox is likely to have spread for some time undetected, citing hundreds of cases in many countries outside of Africa.
