The Progress MS-18 spacecraft separated from the Zvezda module of the ISS station at 11:03 Moscow time (15:03 Hanoi time) on June 1. At 14:11 Moscow time (At 18:11 Hanoi time), its propulsion system was turned on. After Progress MS-18 generates the necessary thrust, it exits trajectory and disintegrate in the atmosphere.
Previously, about 1.3 tons of waste and used equipment was removed from the ISS aboard Progress MS-18.
State corporation Roscosmos said in a statement: “The Progress MS-18 has gone out of orbit and is no longer in existence. Unburnt debris fell at 14:51 Moscow time (18:51 Hanoi time) into the “cemetery spaceship“in the no-ship zone in the South Pacific”.
The Progress MS-20 spacecraft, scheduled to launch and dock on June 3, will replace its predecessor, which has just sunk.
The Progress MS-18 spacecraft has been on the ISS since October 30, 2021. Progress MS-18 engines were used for nine ISS orbit corrections, three of which were to avoid space debris.
The last time Progress MS-18 changed the station’s orbit on May 14, raising it nearly 2 km so that the next transport ship could dock at the ISS.
In addition to standard cargo transport, the ship also carries astronauts with tools to work in space.
