Russia increases gas supplies to China
Gazprom’s Corporation Russia According to information, gas exports to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline have continued to increase. Deliveries from Russia to China are part of a “bilateral long-term contract between Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC)” – Gazprom announced on the official Telegram channel.
The 3,000km long cross-border pipeline officially started supplying Russian gas to China in 2019. The capacity of this eastern pipeline is 61 billion cubic meters of gas per year, including 38 billion cubic meters to export. In 2020, Gazprom supplies 4.1 billion cubic meters of gas to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline.
Agreement to supply Russian gas to China via the Power of Siberia pipeline was reached in 2014. Gazprom and CNPC signed a 30-year contract. The $400 billion deal is Gazprom’s largest-ever deal, and Power of Siberia is the first gas pipeline between Russia and China.
According to Gazprom, the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline project is underway to bring Russian gas to China via Mongolian territory. This pipeline will be able to supply up to 50 billion cubic meters of gas when it comes into operation.
Gazprom intends to become a supplier gas largest in China, accounting for more than 25% of China’s imports by 2035.
