Loss of vision, burns all over the body due to using a charging phone

According to information from the Department of Ophthalmology – Bach Mai Hospital, recently, the unit received and treated a 23-year-old male patient with vision loss, whole body scorching and damage to many organs. He had an accident while using his phone while it was charging.

The patient is a young man of ethnic minorities, working as a construction worker in Hanoi. According to relatives, when everyone was watching TV in the living room, they heard a loud explosion coming from this young man’s private room. Tuan lost consciousness and his whole body was burned. After being resuscitated by first aid, the patient said it was due to the use of a charging phone and the phone exploded.

The family took the patient to Viet Duc Hospital for emergency treatment, removing many foreign objects on the body. Because the patient’s eyes could not see, he was transferred to the hospital’s ophthalmology department for treatment. Through examination, the doctors discovered a lot of foreign bodies in the eye: The patient was assigned to surgically remove the foreign body cornea, intraocular and vitreous.

According to doctors, the patient’s ability to restore vision is very low, the risk of blindness is high, and the patient’s ability to work is lost. In addition to the eye, the patient’s left hand was also broken and had to be treated with a nail brace, perforated the eardrums on both sides and removed many glass foreign bodies on the face.

Accidents caused by exploding phones while charging, causing amputations and facial burns have been warned a lot but still happen. The unfortunate case of the patient rang an additional bell reminding everyone not to use the phone while it was charging to avoid an unfortunate incident.
