Dong Nai will have 3 large port areas that can receive ships with a tonnage of over 60,000 tons

Accordingly, the delegation had a field visit to learn about the seaport system at Nhon Trach port area, Nha Be river, survey the waterways of Dong Tranh river and the area of Go Dau and Phuoc An ports. These are all major port systems in Dong Nai province and in the past time have continuously received large ships to dock and trade. The delegation assessed that Dong Nai has the potential to develop seaports, but a more synchronous planning is needed to exploit the full potential of the ports.
According to the approval of the master plan on development of Vietnam’s seaport system in the period of 2021 – 2030, Dong Nai will have 3 seaport zones planned for development. The first is Phuoc An, Go Dau and Phuoc Thai seaports (on Thi Vai river) with a planning scope including land and water areas on Thi Vai river in Nhon Trach district.

This port area will have the function of serving the socio-economic development of the Southeast provinces and the Central Highlands region with general, container, bulk, liquid/gas cargo berths. And this port area can welcome ships with a tonnage of up to 60,000 tons downstream of Phuoc An bridge; up to 30,000 tons upstream of Phuoc An bridge to Go Dau, Phuoc Thai.
The second wharf is Nhon Trach wharf, with the planning scope including the water area on the right of the Saigon – Vung Tau channel, the Dong Nai channel, and the Dong Tranh channel in the territory of Nhon Trach district. The function of this seaport is to develop the Southeast region with general, bulk, liquid/gas cargo berths. In terms of ship size, the wharf area can accommodate ships of up to 45,000 tons or larger to reduce the load in accordance with the conditions of the navigation channel.
The third wharf is Long Binh Tan (on the Dong Nai river) including the land and water area to the right of the Dong Nai channel (downstream of the Dong Nai bridge). The function is to be a satellite port area, a focal point for consolidating goods for seaports in the region and serving local economic and social development. This port area has general, container, liquid/gas cargo and vessel sizes up to 5,000 tons. Also according to the approved plan, the seaports in the province belong to the group of seaports No. 4.
According to land use planning to 2030, Dong Nai province spends nearly 500 hectares of land to implement port projects in 3 localities: Bien Hoa city, Long Thanh district and Nhon Trach district.
Specifically, Long Thanh district will have Phuoc Thai general port in Phuoc Thai commune, with an area of about 150 hectares.
Nhon Trach district has a cluster of ports with an area of nearly 300 hectares. In Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai port will be expanded (Long Binh Tan ward) with an additional area of nearly 35 hectares.
In order for these projects to be implemented soon, Dong Nai will invite capable businesses, solve land problems, and build a connected transport system.
Dong Nai has 13 rivers and canals with a total length of more than 2,300 km; including many large rivers. In addition, the volume of goods that need to be transported by waterway in Dong Nai is also very large, so it is necessary to expand the port to meet the actual demand.
