The house is inspired by the traditional granary
Located in Indonesia, the project is designed and built based on traditional lines and features of the locality, but still ensures a modern and adequate living space.
The team of architects took advantage of the traditional shape of a rice barn (lumbung padi) in Indonesia.
In terms of structure, the house consists of 3 floors, the main living space located on the first floor is raised 2m above the ground to match the traditional image of a granary.
The ground floor space is where the car is parked, the laundry room is… and there is a small bedroom for the maid.
Based on traditional architectural culture, the space of the living and dining floors is maximized, with almost no surrounding walls. Instead of the concrete layer is a sliding glass door system that can rotate, helping the interior space and the outside nature to be more cohesive.
The spiral staircase is located at the center of the house.
In today’s modern buildings, access to natural ventilation is considered an important factor in quality of life.
The whole house uses brown wood tones and yellow light, which helps the house space become cozy and luxurious.
The roof design is modified to a trapezoidal prism instead of an A-shaped cone. The roof is chiseled into a circular skylight in the center. The slanted walls of the roof are also arranged with windows to provide natural light and allow ventilation throughout the private areas on the upper floor.
Unlike the common living area, in the private spaces, the architect prefers to use bright and delicate white tones.
