Russia seeks solutions to Ukraine’s grain trade

This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov yesterday. One of the main topics discussed was the mechanisms to facilitate trade in Ukraine’s grain exports.

The Russian foreign minister hopes that the two sides will come up with a specific plan for the delivery, insurance and maintenance of the ships that will transport grain to European ports.

Earlier, on June 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Moscow was ready to find a way to transport grain stuck in Ukrainian ports. The best solution is to export Ukrainian grain through Belarus, provided that sanctions against Belarus are lifted.

On the Ukrainian side, it said that it has not yet agreed on a plan to export grain by rail through Belarus to ports in the Baltic Sea.

Kiev is currently in discussions with Britain and Turkey about a naval plan from a third country that will ensure a safe passage for Ukraine’s grain exports through the Black Sea. Kiev also warned next autumn that up to 75 million tons of grain could be stranded in the country.
