Dominica Environment Minister assassinated in office

This information was given by a spokesman for the presidential office of this country.
Employees at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources said they heard at least seven shots from inside the building. Police units arrived at the scene shortly after.
A suspect, identified as Miguel Cruz, has been arrested. Notably, the Cruz subject was a childhood friend of the Minister. Authorities have not yet released a potential motive for the attack.
Mera comes from a politically powerful family, the son of former President Salvador Jorge Blanco and one of the founders of the ruling Modern Revolution party. His sister Mera holds the position of deputy minister in the current administration. He has been appointed as Minister of Environment and Natural Resources since August 2020.
Mr. Mera died leaving behind his wife – Dominica ambassador to Brazil – and two sons.
