Jussie Smollett releases song after serving prison term

Jussie Smollett released a new song last week featuring lyrics referring to his criminal case, claiming he was wrongly convicted.

Actor “Empire” released from prison Last month was awaiting appeal after he was found guilty of making false statements to police that he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in 2019.

“Some people seek fame / Some people pursue that fame / Just remember this / This is not that situation / You think I am stupid enough to kill my reputation? / Simply to look like a victim / Like it’s something fun / It’s better to look at others / You’re wrong,” Smollett sings in the song “Thank You God”.

Smollett, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment, shared a snippet of the song in one Instagram post on Friday.

The post begins with the title tag, captioned with the message: “THIS CHANNEL THIS IDEAS IS THE BEST WAY I KNOW. LOVE YOU… – JUSSIE. ”

Smollett, black and gay, stated that he was brutally assaulted in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago early on January 29, 2019. Authorities said he staged the fake attack. Smollett denied it and said he was innocent.

One hundred percent of profits will be donated to nonprofits, the Rainbow Push Coalition, the Illinois Innocence Project, and Bag Safety, according to the caption of his Instagram post.
