Therefore, 8 associations include: Japan Business Association in Vietnam, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers, Vietnam Textile and Garment Association, Vietnam Electronic Business Association, Food Association Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Association, Vietnam Plastics Association, and Vietnam Motorcycle Manufacturers Association have sent a dispatch to the Prime Minister proposing to increase the regional minimum wage. from January 1, 2023.

In the petition sent to the Prime Minister, associations stated the reason that in the two years 2020-2021, the outbreak of COVID-19 has had a serious impact on businesses. Postponing the application of regional minimum wage increases will help businesses have the best time to prepare.

The associations also said that the difficulties caused by the COVD-19 epidemic have not ended as F0 workers continue to appear, a new wave of mutations still threatens production.

Along with that, if the salary increases at the beginning of July, it is difficult for businesses to manage because the time is too close. All production, financial and order plans of the enterprise were built at the end of the previous year, unable to increase the selling price to cover costs. Not to mention, many businesses have implemented salary increases in early 2021, 2022.

The associations also believe that a salary increase in the middle of the year like this July will push businesses into an extremely difficult situation, many businesses will have to cancel contracts because of unwarranted costs, affecting their work. employment and income of workers and the survival of enterprises.

Many businesses are at risk of having to cut workers, suspend or reduce production, or even go bankrupt because they cannot afford to pay labor costs. This will lead to potentially tens of thousands of workers without jobs.

“With the above situation, it can be seen that businesses, which are also heavily affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, also need support from the Government just like the Government supports employees”, the company said. documents of Business Associations mentioned.

On April 12, the National Wage Council met for the second session in 2022 to discuss the issue of increasing the regional minimum wage for workers in businesses. At this meeting, the representative of the workers, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, proposed two options.

Option 1: Adjusting the minimum wage from July 1, 2022, with an increase of 270,000-330,000 VND, an average increase of 8.16% compared to 2020-2021.
